Etymology[edit]

The name Vedeta is an anglicization of the Hindi word Verbaghjanajati. The name originally referred to the North Vede peoples, who used the tiger as their symbol and revered the animal. During the Acronian occupation of the country, during which the modern borders were drawn, the Acronians shortened the name to 'Vedeta' as it was easier to pronounce and required less ink.

History[edit]

WIP >kingdoms n shiet >war with huda?

The first Acronian contact with the kingdoms of Vedeta was mercantile, as Acronian merchants sought to acquire rare spices, saltpeter, exotic animals and other luxury goods to ship home. Increasing intervention in Vedetan politics and internecine warfare eventually resulted in the Acronian Intervention in 1814, during which the Kingdom of Verbaghjanajati and several other kingdoms were either conquered or transformed into vassal states of the Grand Acronian Empire.

Following the Second Great War the Vedetan Raj underwent significant change, as revolutionary leaders such as Pakulu Chenab led protests against the Acronian regime. On the 15th January 1951, the Acronian government issued the Devolution of Vedeta Bill, which laid out a three-year roadmap to independence for the former colony. The provisional government of Vedeta expedited the progress, however, declaring itself fully independent on the 15th of January 1952.
